In a male-dominated industry like transportation, being a woman-led company isn't just notable—it's revolutionary. And I'm proud to be at the forefront of this change.
My Journey
Before Kabba Transport, I spent over a decade in banking, including six years at Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in various management positions. I had a successful career, but something was missing.
As a mother of three, I faced the same daily challenge every Ethiopian parent faces: how to get my children to school safely and reliably. The existing options were unsafe, unreliable, and stressful.
So I did what many wouldn't—I left my stable banking career to start a company.
The Challenges
Starting wasn't easy. As a woman in business, especially in transportation, I faced:
- Skepticism — "Can a woman really run a transportation company?"
- Bias — Having to prove myself twice as hard
- Balancing act — Managing a startup while being a mother
The Rewards
But the rewards have been worth it:
- 400,000+ trips completed safely
- 300+ children transported monthly
- Meaningful employment created for women and youth
- Recognition as a pioneer in Ethiopian transportation
Leading by Example
My journey has inspired others. As a board member of the Association of Women in Business (AWiB), I'm committed to empowering more women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
"To all the women out there, never stop, never settle, and never let society define your limits."
The Bigger Picture
Women-led businesses bring unique perspectives:
- Empathy — Understanding customer needs deeply
- Resilience — Navigating challenges with grace
- Community-building — Creating supportive environments
- Innovation — Finding solutions others might miss
What's Next
My goal isn't just to succeed—it's to open doors for the next generation of female entrepreneurs. Every time a girl sees a woman leading a company, she expands her sense of what's possible.
To every woman dreaming of starting her own business: the path may be challenging, but the destination is worth it. Don't let anyone tell you what you can't achieve.
